Richard Gartner has been actively practicing law for over 40 years, garnering the highest honors alongside countless trials in and around St. Charles County. Throughout his career, Richard has gathered the experience and knowledge necessary to navigate virtually any case within the fields of civil and criminal law. With over 40 years of courtroom experience, Richard has established himself as one of the leading litigators in the state Missouri and is one of the few lawyers to be recognized nationwide with the highest possible legal and ability and ethics rating, according to a prestigious national attorney rating organization.
Richard is currently a principal in the Gartner Law Firm located in St. Peters where his primary area of practice has been general civil and criminal trial litigation. He has the ability to practice before all of the circuit courts within the state of Missouri, including the Missouri Court of Appeals of the Eastern District of Missouri, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
His extensive experience in the court has made Richard a trial lawyer by trade, allowing him to successfully advise clients on matters of negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation. Richard prides himself on offering skilled legal counsel so that his clients can feel both informed and secure in every single legal matter and decision. Richard A. Gartner is a currently a member a number of state and national legal associations including the Missouri Bar Association, the St. Charles County Bar Association where he has served as president, the Criminal Bar Association of St. Charles County where he has served as secretary, and is a founding member of the Missouri Republican Attorneys for Civil Justice.
In addition to his distinguished career of practicing law, Richard is also the proud husband of Chris Gartner. Together the two have raised three children and currently reside in the city of St. Charles. In addition to being a family man, Charles has always been an active member within his community. He currently serves as a board member of the United Way of Greater St. Louis and has served as a coach for the St. Charles West High School Mock Trial program, receiving the Journey to Excellence Award from the St. Charles school district.

Matthew Gartner joined The Gartner Law Firm at the firm's St. Peter’s, Missouri office in June of 2018 as an Associate. His practice will generally focus on Corporate Advice, and Corporate Bankruptcy representation, Workers Compensation, and General Civil Litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Matthew Gartner was an Associate with Husch Blackwell and practiced in the field of corporate bankruptcy and insolvency. Before that, he practiced law in the Chicago office of the international law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP (2006-2011). While there, Matthew Gartner practiced corporate bankruptcy law, representing large and mid-market corporate debtors, banks and private equity funds in all stages of the bankruptcy process and handling a wide variety of matters including litigation, distressed asset sales and financing arrangements.
Matthew earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Washington University School of Law in 2006, where he received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award and was on the Dean's List. Before entering law school, Gartner received his B.A. from Saint Louis University (1996) and taught high school students at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City (1996-1997) and at DeSmet Jesuit High School (1997-2002).
Matthew has represented clients dealing with financially distressed enterprises regarding commercial financial issues. He has represented all major constituencies in bankruptcy proceedings and non-bankruptcy restructurings, including senior secured lenders, mezzanine lenders, bondholders, real and personal property lessors, unsecured trade creditors, creditors’ and bondholders’ committees, debtors and asset purchasers, including unique experience representing clients in international insolvency proceedings, food and energy industry bankruptcy matters and insurance insolvencies.
Since 2010, Amy McCulloch has served as a paralegal with the Gartner Law Firm. A graduate of Missouri Western State College, she has an Associates of Science in Legal Assistant degree. She truly enjoys meeting with and supporting the firm’s clients throughout the entire legal process. She also handles the day to day activities within the office, including client relations, scheduling, billing and administrative support. In her spare time she enjoys reading, camping and spending time with her husband and two children.
